It can lead to stretching or tearing the ligament that holds your ankle bones and joints together. RICE (rest, ice, compression, and then elevation) is an effective treatment option.
Iliotibial band syndrome
Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is a very painful condition. In it, the connective tissues rub against the thighbones. Distance runners in particular are more prone to be affected by it. This problem occurs when the iliotibial band becomes tight or inflamed. The IT band contains a thick band of connective tissue that runs from outside of your hip to the outside of the knee. It helps strengthen and move the knee joint.
IT band syndrome can happen due to any activity that causes the leg to turn inwards repeatedly. When your IT band does not work properly, you will have problem in running. Your movement becomes turns to be painful. The lower back pain can run from bad to worse and can be severe enough to completely sideline you for weeks or even more. The initial treatments to get rid of ITBS are ice, rest, compression, and elevation, which is known as RICE.
