Bariatric surgery or weight loss surgery is a surgical method which leads to reduction in obesity. If the body mass index is between 25 and 30, then one is overweight. If the weight is increasing continuously, the BMI i.e. body mass index goes above 30. People whose BMI goes above 30 can also get rid of obesity with medical help. But not every obese person can get obese bariatric surgery. So, it is an important condition for the BMI to be between 35 and 40. Under special health condition, a patient may be allowed to undergo bariatric surgery even with a BMI below 35.

When can a patient with a BMI of less than 35 be given bariatric surgery?

If an obese individual has other diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes metabolic syndrome, then that person can be given bariatric surgery, even with a BMI less than 35.
